First Information Commissioner to speak at UCCI's 2014 Commencement Ceremony

05 November 2014, 8:00 AM
Mrs. Jennifer Dilbert, MBE, JP, Cayman's first Information Commissioner, is the Commencement Speaker for the University College of the Cayman Islands' (UCCI's) 17th commencement exercise.  This will take place in the Sir Vassel Johnson Hall on the UCCI campus on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 7:00 pm.
Mrs. Dilbert headed the independent Information Commissioner's Office which ensures that the Freedom of Information (FOI) Law is complied with, and its objectives met. By the time of her retirement, FOI had become intricately woven into the community, with many public officials and authorities responding to the call for transparency and good governance.
Prior to that, Mrs. Dilbert served as the Cayman Islands Government Representative in the United Kingdom from 2000 to 2008 and was also seconded for a period to head the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority. In addition, she was Executive Director of Deutsche Bank (Cayman) Ltd. from 1996-1999 and previously served with the Cayman Islands Government for 17 years, 15 of which were spent in the supervision of the financial services industry.
She has served on various Boards and Committees in Government, the community and in the private sector. In 2005, Mrs. Dilbert was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
The commencement ceremony will celebrate approximately 170 graduates who will receive Graduate Degrees, Bachelor's Degrees, Associate Degrees, Professional and Certificate qualifications.
Both Tania M. Ebanks and Ethel O. McLean, who completed Master's Programmes, are graduating with honours, an achievement that has also been attained by 25% of the Bachelor's and 15% of the Associate Degree students.
Ms. Kaye A. Bodden, who is graduating summa cum laude with a BSc in Business Administration, is the Valedictorian for the graduating class.
This year's graduation exercise is exceptional as it falls during UCCI's 10th Charter Anniversary as a university college.  It has been ten years since UCCI started offering four-year business degrees in accounting, economics, finance and management.
Today, UCCI has grown to include in its offerings, four other Bachelor's Degrees in Computer Science, Social Science, Education and Nursing. UCCI also continues to offer a number of technical, vocational, continuing education and professional certificate programmes.
The focal point of UCCI 10th Charter Anniversary Celebrations is a million dollar initiative which invites the private sector and the general public to support the institution and make a lasting contribution to the future of our Islands.  This will strengthen UCCI's goal to empower our youth, inspire success, and help to build a better society.
