The time has come to celebrate and show appreciation for the exceptional individuals working in our tourism industry.  On Tuesday, June 20th 2017, the Cayman Islands Tourism Association (CITA) will be hosting the 14th Annual Cayman Stingray Tourism Awards.  The Awards will be held at the Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa, and will start at 6 p.m. with a cocktail/welcome reception, followed by awards presentation and dinner at 7 p.m.

"Once a year we get to recognize the true heroes of tourism in front of Industry leaders and Government officials. We encourage you to spotlight your talented employees at this very prestigious event." ...expresses Gaetan Babin, CITA Executive Board Director and Events Planning Team Member.  The main purpose of the CITA's Stingray Tourism Awards is to shine a bright light on the hard-working and devoted individuals within our local tourism Industry. The awards highlight the efforts and accomplishments of personnel that have set themselves apart from the rest through their stellar service both behind the scenes and in the eye of the consumer.

CITA's Executive Director, Ms. Tiffany Dixon-Ebanks commented on the need for reflection stating: "As our Annual Awards have become very popular over the years, the 'competition' gets stiffer each year.  We find that there are several well-deserving and worthy individuals vying to take home the one coveted trophy per Awards Category. If only we could give to everyone!  I encourage nominators to step up their game ensuring that you provide supporting information where appropriate.  That way, our Nominations Committee members can best evaluate the astute contributions and quality service provided by our industry employees.  We look forward to receiving nominations and celebrating excellence at this classic event on June 20th."

CITA's newly appointed President Theresa Leacock-Broderick further adds: "We all take pride in the many tourism destination accolades the Cayman Islands garners and in earning the loyalty of the thousands of visitors who return year after year. But our tourism successes would not be possible without the talent and dedication of the many individuals who work throughout the industry.

"The Stingray Tourism Awards honors a few of the most outstanding each year and as we hear their stories throughout the evening, we get a glimpse of the passion and the personal pride in what they do each day in delivering service excellence for Cayman's tourism. It is these remarkable individuals that make the Stingray Tourism Awards gala truly an evening of celebration and inspiration."

CITA members can nominate their top performers (manager or employee) for a Stingray Award in the following Sectors:
* Accommodations (condominiums, villas and hotels)
* Watersports
* Restaurants
* Allied, Attractions and Transportation (Allied includes retail, services, media, arts and entertainment)

In addition to the categories above, there is a Rising Star Award which is presented to a newcomer to the industry who shows promise in the field of tourism.  There is also the Diamond Award (previously referred to as Long Service Award).  This prestigious award will be given to an industry veteran who has been in the hospitality industry for over 20 years. Lastly, there is also the special Lifetime Achievement Award that will be presented on the night.

2016 Rising Star Recipient, Kimberley Conolly of The Wick Candles & Scents, expressed: "Tourism is my passion and I live for it!  I would really love to see more young Caymanians show interest in representing themselves and their country in this awesome industry.  Winning this award affords me endless opportunity to continue to grow within the industry, and who knows, maybe years down the line I could be Lifetime Achievement Recipient (smile).  In the meantime, my intention simply is to focus on my product at the Wick Candles & Scents and continue to promote the Cayman Islands both locally and internationally."

Jay Mehta of Netclues, who won the 2016 Allied Employee of the Year Award, shared: "I feel very proud of the recognition in these prestigious tourism awards. It's really more about doing something to promote the country & act to its benefits, than the award. We all know how trophies are... we forget about them after a while ...but it's the feeling that matters. This has motivated not only me but the entire team of Netclues to work harder & perform better to promote the Cayman Islands in whatever areas we can."

Nominations are open and will be accepted through 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24th, 2017.
