A group of six public sector leaders from the Caribbean and Bermuda British Overseas Territories are in the Cayman Islands to attend the Heads of Public Sector Conference, which is taking place at the Government Administration Building in George Town, from 29-30 April.

The two-day event, being hosted by the Office of the Deputy Governor and led by Deputy Governor and Head of the Civil Service Hon. Franz Manderson, will focus on the current state of the civil and public service in the Caribbean and Bermuda British Overseas Territories, public sector reform, challenges and solutions, best practices and available toolkits for enhancing government service delivery and efficiency.

Her Excellency Governor Jane Owen and Premier Honourable Juliana O’Connor-Connolly welcomed the participants at the opening of the conference this morning. In attendance are Deputy Governor, Montserrat, Lyndell Simpson; Deputy Governor, Turks and Caicos, Anya Williams; Permanent Secretary, Turks and Caicos, Miquel Swann; Deputy Permanent Secretary, Turks and Caicos, Juliana Musgrove; Deputy Governor, Anguilla, Perin Bradley; Head of the Public Service, Bermuda, Cherie-Lyn Whitter; Deputy Governor, British Virgin Islands, David Archer along with other senior representatives from the local civil service.

In commenting on the importance of the meeting, Deputy Governor Franz Manderson stated that the information and innovation that will be shared will help shape the thinking of all participants as they all work together to reform and modernise the civil service to better serve the people across all the territories.

“We all know that is critical that we constantly refine or ways of working, reshape our processes and modernise our public services to better serve our citizens and elected leaders. I am very pleased that we are hosting the discussions and exchange of ideas and experiences this year in Cayman and I am confident that my counterparts will continue to collaborate, cross-learn as we work to improve the way our governments do business,” he said.

During the conference, a number of heads of departments from the Cayman Islands Government will give presentations on various topics of mutual interest.
