CAACI Issues Airspace Restrictions for the Royal Visit

To ensure the safety and security of Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall and their distinguished guests, the Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Cayman Islands (CAACI) has restricted the airspace surrounding the above locations in accordance with the provisions of Article 68 (1)(a) of the Air Navigation (Overseas Territories) Order 2013, as amended.

The flight of all aircraft, including small unmanned aircraft (SUA), also known as Drones, is prohibited within the each area as detailed below:

RESTRICTED AIRSPACE NOTIFICATION

Air Navigation (Overseas Territories) Order 2013 - Article 68(1)(a)

RESTRICTED AIRSPACE as follows:

i.   1.5NM from sea level to 2000ft MSL centered on the Governor’s Residence  (Latitude 19°20.439’ Longitude 81°22.887’) from 1100 hours local on 27th March until 2000 hours local on 28th March 2019

ii.  1NM from sea level to 2000ft MSL centered on The Ritz Carlton (Latitude 19°20.149’  Longitude 81°22.615’) from 1500 until 1700 hours local on 28th March 2019

iii. 1NM from sea level to 2000ft MSL centered on Pedro St. James (Latitude 19°16.002’  Longitude 81°17.498’) from 1500 until 2200 hours local on 28th March 2019

iv. 2NM from sea level to 2000ft MSL centered on The Clifton Hunter High School (Latitude 19°18.646’ Longitude 81°11.040’ ) from 1300 until 1500 hours local on 28th March 2019

For the avoidance of doubt, the restriction applies to both approved commercial SUA/Drone operators and recreational enthusiasts unless specifically approved for this event by the CAACI.

The CAACI is collaborating with the RCIPS to ensure the restricted airspace is appropriately policed and notice is hereby given that any infringement of this restriction could lead to prosecution in accordance with the provisions of Article 185 of the Air Navigation (Overseas Territories) Order 2013, as amended.
