The Cayman Independent has received approval from Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC) to publish work permit-related job advertisements, ahead of the launch of its weekly Friday print edition on 10 July.
The launch coincides with updated work permit advertising requirements introduced under the Caymanian Protection Act.
According to the Cayman Islands Government’s Immigration Reform Guide, before submitting a work permit grant or renewal application, a position must be “advertised for a minimum of 21 days in both of the following prescribed media: the WORC electronic Jobs Portal; and a locally printed newspaper”.
Since launching in early 2025, the Cayman Independent has established itself as a trusted source of Cayman business and financial services news online. The introduction of the Friday print edition enables employers to satisfy the government’s newspaper advertising requirement through a WORC-approved publication while reaching a growing business and readership audience.
The weekly newspaper will feature job advertisements, business news and commercial advertising.
Readers can also expect expanded editorial content, including additional business reporting, enhanced sports coverage, and a wider selection of features alongside the Cayman Independent’s regular news coverage.
Editor Rebecca Bird said the launch represents an important milestone for the publication.
“Our readers have responded strongly to the Cayman Independent’s digital coverage, and the Friday print edition allows us to build on that success with even more original journalism.
“It gives us the opportunity to expand our business and sports coverage while continuing to deliver the independent, high-quality reporting our readers expect.”
Employers wishing to advertise vacancies for work permit purposes can now book space in the Cayman Independent’s Friday print newspaper, with each print advertisement also benefiting from an accompanying online listing.
The government’s updated Immigration Reform Guide confirms that, from 1 July, all work permit grant and renewal applications must comply with the new 21-day advertising requirement, including publication in a locally printed newspaper.
