The Cayman Prep and High School Prom Committee has turned the success of this year’s school prom into an opportunity to give back to the community, donating the event’s surplus proceeds to two deserving local charities. Following the school’s prom, held on 20 June, the committee recorded a surplus of KY$2,318 from ticket sales.

In keeping with the spirit of community service, the committee voted to donate the funds equally between LIFE (Literacy Is For Everyone) and the Alex Panton Foundation, with each organization receiving KY$1,159.

The donation reflects the committee’s commitment to supporting organizations that make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people and families across the Cayman Islands. LIFE promotes literacy and a lifelong love of reading, while the Alex Panton Foundation works to improve mental health awareness and support for children and young adults. “This donation from the Cayman Prep and High School Prom Committee is especially meaningful because it reflects young people supporting young people," said Michelle Powell, Alex Panton Foundation’s Administrative Coordinator.

“The committee's generosity will help us to continue creating conversations around mental health and ensuring that children and young adults know they are not alone. We appreciate their thoughtfulness.” Prom Committee members Arianna Chin and Francesca Catalanotto said they were pleased that the event could have a positive impact beyond the celebration itself. “We are incredibly grateful for the support of everyone who attended this year’s prom,” they said.

“The event was a wonderful way to celebrate the end of the school year, and we’re delighted that the surplus funds can now help two organizations that make such a positive difference in our community. We hope this donation will contribute to their important work and inspire others to support local charities.”

The Cayman Prep and High School Prom Committee extends its thanks to students, parents, teachers, sponsors, and everyone who helped make the event such a success.
