The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is proud to announce its brand-new payment portal for garbage fees will officially go live on Monday, June 22, 2026. Accessible directly at gov.ky/deh, this portal marks a major milestone in the department’s modernization strategy. This portal represents the first of many online services designed to facilitate payments of services offered. The new digital payment system provides 24/7 access, allowing business operators, property owners, and stratas to securely settle invoices from anywhere, at any time.
To utilize this seamless online system, customers are required to pay using a debit or credit card. This transformation eliminates the need to stand in line or physically travel to DEH’s Head Office, resulting in significantly reducing wait times, fewer vehicle trips, and a lighter environmental footprint due to reduced paper usage. Transactions processed through the portal are fast, reliable, and secure, delivering an instant digital confirmation receipt to users immediately upon payment. “This online payment portal marks a fundamental shift in how the DEH serves the public, moving us away from restrictive, manual transactions and toward a modern, frictionless experience,” said DEH Director Richard Simms.
“This is a critical step in our commitment to supporting a World-Class Civil Service that prioritizes efficiency, transparency, and customer convenience.” The DEH issues its commercial and strata garbage fee invoices twice a year, in June and December. Historically, clients were restricted to paying these invoices via cash, cheque, debit, or credit card directly at physical front desks.
While the DEH Finance Unit has previously accepted direct bank transfers to the Treasury, tracking those allocations manually has long presented a reconciliation challenge, delaying real-time gov.ky/deh account updates. The new online portal resolves this by instantly linking credit and debit card payments to client accounts safely and automatically.
