Acting Deputy Governor Gloria McField-Nixon today, Wednesday 1 July 2026, announced the appointment of Lauren Knight as Chief Officer of the Portfolio of the Civil Service (PoCS), succeeding her in the role.
Ms Knight began her Civil Service career as an Internal Audit Manager in July 2014 and has since advanced through the ranks, most recently serving as Deputy Chief Officer (Strategic Operations and Governance) within PoCS. She brings depth of experience across governance, human resources policy, accountability, and public sector reform to her new role.
Welcoming Ms Knight to her new post, Mrs McField-Nixon describes her as someone who has ably led teams and critical processes throughout her tenure: “I am pleased to announce Ms Knight’s appointment to this critical Chief Officer role. The interview panel was deeply impressed by her passion and proven track record as a senior civil servant. Since joining the CIG, Ms Knight has also demonstrated an exceptional commitment to continuous professional development—earning ILM Level 7 postgraduate leadership qualifications alongside certifications as a Fraud Investigator and Internal Auditor. She has successfully led complex reforms ranging from those aimed at strengthening accountability measures to those aimed at providing support for families within our civil service. Lauren brings expertise, energy and achievement that will make her a great fit within the Chief Officer team, and I am confident she will continue to fulfill with distinction, the PoCS pillar responsibilities of HR, public sector excellence, and good governance in service to the Government and people of the Cayman Islands.”
As Deputy Chief Officer, Ms Knight led several major policy initiatives with lasting impact across the Civil Service. She championed the Anti-Bullying, Harassment, and Discrimination Policy — a critical step toward creating a safer, more respectful workplace — and played a central role in the comprehensive modernisation of the Personnel Regulations, including amendments that expanded maternity and paternity benefits. She subsequently developed the Parental Leave Policy, operationalising those amendments by establishing consistent, service-wide standards that ensure equitable benefits for all new parents in the Civil Service.
Earlier this year, Ms Knight further advanced the Government’s modernisation agenda by delivering system‑wide reform through the comprehensive overhaul of the disciplinary provisions within the Personnel Regulations, bolstering the Civil Service’s accountability framework. She also developed the first-ever Discipline Policy and delivered bespoke training to more than 300 appointing officers and HR professionals to support consistent, fair and effective implementation.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms Knight created the COVID-19 Policy, helping to safeguard staff and the wider community through a period of significant national uncertainty. In recognition of her exceptional service during this period, she was awarded the Certificate and Badge of Honour in 2021.
Ms Knight holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Maine. She is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP), Certified Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) practitioner, Certified Public Accountant (not in public practice), and a professionally recognised Workplace Mediator. Earlier in her career, she completed an 18-month secondment with the United Kingdom Government's Internal Audit Agency, an experience she has credited with broadening her perspective and deepening her professional capabilities.
Reflecting on her appointment, Ms Knight acknowledges the leadership that shaped her journey — including that of the Deputy Governor Designate herself, whose role she now assumes. "I am delighted to step into this role following Mrs McField-Nixon's exceptional leadership and the strong foundation she has set. It has been a profound honour to learn and grow under her guidance, and under the leadership of outgoing Deputy Governor Franz Manderson — a privilege for which I am deeply grateful. As I assume this new responsibility, I am committed to providing steady, capable leadership and to supporting the talented team within the Portfolio as we continue delivering meaningful outcomes and world-class solutions with excellence and impact."
Ms Knight's appointment follows an internal recruitment process that included numerous assessments and the scrutiny of the interview panel comprising the Acting Deputy Governor Gloria McField-Nixon, and private sector members Taron Jackman and Ormand Williams.
Congratulating the new Chief Officer, Deputy Governor Manderson notes: “I am extremely proud to see Ms Knight take on this critical role for the Civil Service. Having worked closely with her, I have witnessed her exceptional performance firsthand, including her skill in navigating highly complex HR matters with sound judgment and discretion. She has delivered real results — leading the increase in maternity and paternity leave and driving reform of the disciplinary provisions in our regulations — while building trust and strong relationships across every level of the Service. That combination of delivery and connection is exactly what this role demands, and I have full confidence she will continue to drive our pursuit of a world-class civil service.”
Ms Knight will officially take up her post on 17 August 2026.
