The Cayman Islands Commonwealth Games Association (CICGA) proudly celebrates another successful day of competition for Team Cayman at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, highlighted by yet another national swimming record at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre. With competition entering its fifth day, Cayman Islands swimmers continued to demonstrate resilience, technical improvement, and competitive spirit against many of the Commonwealth's leading athletes, adding another national record to an already memorable campaign.

The highlight of the day came in the Mixed 4x100 metres Medley Relay, where Team Cayman produced another outstanding team performance to establish a new Cayman Islands national record. The quartet of Sierrah Broadbelt, Will Sellars, Daniel Kish and Kyra Rabess combined to record a time of 4:09.43, lowering the national record while finishing 13th overall against a highly competitive international field.

Broadbelt provided Cayman with a strong opening backstroke leg, keeping pace with neighbouring lanes and handing over in an excellent position. Sellars maintained the team's momentum during the breaststroke leg before Kish delivered one of the race's strongest butterfly swims, moving Cayman several places through the field with an impressive performance. Rabess anchored the relay with a composed freestyle leg, bringing the team home in record-breaking fashion and securing another milestone for Cayman Islands swimming. The performance marked Team Cayman's seventh national swimming record of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, continuing an exceptional run of relay success throughout the competition. The women's 800 metres freestyle produced another encouraging morning for the Cayman Islands. Kyra Rabess delivered an excellent swim to finish fourth in her heat with a time of 9:00.85. After opening the race confidently, Rabess maintained consistent pacing throughout the middle stages before producing a particularly strong final 100 metres to finish the race with determination.

Harper Barrowman also impressed in the opening heat, recording 9:13.72 to place sixth. After settling into the race during the opening laps, Barrowman steadily increased her pace and controlled the field for much of her heat before producing an outstanding closing 50 metres to finish comfortably ahead of her nearest competitors.

Both performances reflected the continued development of Cayman Islands distance swimming and the athletes' ability to execute disciplined race strategies over one of the programme's most demanding events. In the men's 50 metres butterfly, both Cayman Islands representatives competed strongly in one of swimming's fastest events. Eli Bain produced a smooth and technically controlled swim, finishing in 26.62 seconds. After an even start from the blocks, Bain maintained a consistent stroke throughout the race and delivered another encouraging performance at his first Commonwealth Games. Daniel Kish continued his impressive Games with a time of 25.33 seconds. A strong start and excellent underwater phase kept him firmly in contention throughout a tightly contested race, with only fractions of a second separating much of the field at the finish.

The men's 100 metres backstroke saw Luke Higgo produce another composed performance, touching the wall in 58.17 seconds to finish 17th overall and narrowly miss advancement after being named first reserve for the next round. Higgo maintained strong technique throughout the race and continued his consistent run of performances in Glasgow. Will Sellars completed the event in 1:00.53, delivering another solid swim in a highly competitive field while continuing to gain valuable international experience. Five days into the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, Team Cayman has continued to demonstrate significant progress on the international stage through a combination of national records, relay finals, semi-final appearances, and consistently competitive performances across a broad range of events.

The latest national record in the Mixed 4x100 metres Medley Relay further reflects the depth and cohesion of the Cayman Islands swimming programme and the commitment of the athletes and coaching staff to continual improvement. As competition enters its final stages, Team Cayman remains focused on building upon the momentum established throughout the Games.
