The Department of Education Services (DES) Facilities team is currently undertaking remediation work at John Gray High School following the discovery of a water leak near the reception area on Monday morning (2 June).

The issue was identified after puddles of water were observed inside and around the ground floor boys’ and girls’ bathrooms. The affected area was immediately cordoned off, and the Facilities team was contacted to begin assessments.

Following inspections by Entech and Cayman Mechanical Company, it was confirmed that the water was fresh and originated from a leak within the pipes inside the wall.

A section of the wall will be removed to locate and repair the source of the leak.

DES Director Mr. Mark Ray stated,“The team will work expeditiously to fix the problem prior to school opening tomorrow. While the water supply cannot be turned off—since it would impact the entire wing—we are taking measures to mitigate the risk of water pooling on the floor.”

Mr. Ray further assures that contingency plans will be implemented to ensure the safety and security of all staff and students if the issue cannot be fully resolved before Wednesday morning.

DES is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment and will provide further updates as necessary.
