A Man’s Body was Recovered from the Water off West Bay During a Joint Search Effort

Just after 1:30 PM on Saturday, 6 December, police and other emergency services were dispatched to North West Point Road, West Bay, in response to a suspected drowning.

 

It was reported that an unresponsive male was observed submerged in the sea off North West Point Road. The Cayman Islands Coast Guard and the Cayman Islands Fire Service were deployed alongside the police, including the Air Operations Unit. Civilian divers also assisted, and the man was recovered from the water. He was assessed by EMS and found to be deceased and transported to George Town Hospital by EMS. 

 

The police are investigating the circumstances of his death. It appears the man was snorkelling in the area when he encountered difficulties and subsequently submerged beneath the surface. He is identified as a 34-year-old visitor from the United States. The RCIPS wishes to express their condolences to the family of the deceased.
