Charles Kirkconnell International Airport (CKIA) on Cayman Brac resumed normal business operations at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, 30 August 2019, following an incident with a departing private aircraft.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, 29 August 2019, in which the aircraft takeoff was aborted due to a malfunction of the landing gear. There were no reported injuries, and Airport personnel were on the scene immediately to assess and resolve the situation.

Normal runway operations at CKIA were suspended temporarily to accommodate the safe removal of the aircraft from the runway.

The Cayman Islands Airports Authority would like to thank the Cayman Islands Fire Service at CKIA, Cayman Airways personnel, aircraft operator and CIAA staff for their joint efforts to remediate the situation and restore the operational readiness of CKIA.
