Residents across Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac will have opportunities to discuss the proposed National Cancer Registry and share their views with the Ministry of Health, Environment and Sustainability through a series of district meetings beginning this week.
The meetings form part of the Ministry's ongoing public consultation on the National Cancer Registry Discussion White Paper and will take place alongside the HEARTS District Days programme. Residents can learn about the proposed registry, the Public Health Bill, 2026, and the Environmental Health Bill, 2026, all of which are open for public consultation. Public health nurses will also be available to conduct blood pressure checks as part of the HEARTS programme.
The proposed National Cancer Registry is intended to address limitations in the existing voluntary system, which does not provide comprehensive population-based data on cancer incidence and prevalence or allow reliable assessment of cancer screening uptake and patterns in diagnosis. A comprehensive registry would support the collection and analysis of cancer information across the population, helping to identify trends and inform prevention, screening and health-service planning.
The Discussion White Paper outlines proposals for reporting cancer cases and protecting patient confidentiality. Residents and stakeholders are encouraged to review the proposed framework and share their views before the consultation closes. Feedback will inform the Ministry's consideration of the proposal and the next steps towards developing a national registry.
