The Cayman Islands Government has successfully concluded the III Code Proxy Audit and Red Ensign Group Monitoring Visit, a week-long international review of maritime safety and environmental protection standards.

The audit, conducted in two phases, began locally from 1–5 September and then continued in the United Kingdom this week. It assessed Cayman’s compliance with International Maritime Organisation (IMO) safety rules and environmental safeguards, ensuring the Islands uphold world-class standards across flag State, port State, and coastal State responsibilities.

Led by Cabinet Secretary Samuel Rose and a cross-government working group, the process included agencies such as the Maritime Authority, Port Authority, Coast Guard, and Hazard Management Cayman Islands. “This audit was not just a regulatory exercise; it was an opportunity to demonstrate our continued commitment to maritime excellence and safety. Our collaborative approach gave a clear overview of our strengths,” Mr. Rose stated.

Audit Team Leader Regi John said the process highlighted several best practices and commended the Cayman Islands Coast Guard, Hazard Management, Department of Environment, and Maritime Authority for maintaining international standards. Areas for further improvement were also identified.

The Red Ensign Group, which includes the UK and its territories, ensures high levels of maritime safety and environmental stewardship worldwide. The Cayman Islands remain ranked among the world’s most respected ship registries, reflecting ongoing efforts to maintain leadership in global maritime governance.
