Cayman Finance completed its 2026 Fundamentals of Financial Services workshop series for Year 9 students. The workshops were attended by 60 students at St. Ignatius Catholic School, Hope Academy and Grace Christian Academy.
The Fundamentals of Financial Services workshops are designed to educate students on financial concepts that are fundamentally important to the services provided by the financial services industry in the Cayman Islands.
The series comprised six sessions covering how money is made, the economy, the nature of money, companies, markets, and tax and government finances. The sessions were led by Danielle Hennings, Director of Finance, Operations and Community Engagement at Cayman Finance.
Commenting on the workshop series, Danielle Hennings said: “Financial services is the Cayman Islands’ largest industry, and we believe it is important that the next generation understands the opportunities it offers. Giving Year 9 students a grounding in financial concepts at the point when they are beginning to think about their future studies and careers can make a real difference. We want every young person to have the knowledge and confidence to pursue a career in this industry.”
Cayman Finance delivers the workshops to broaden students’ awareness of financial concepts before they make subject choices that will shape their educational and career paths. Cayman Finance is looking to expand the workshop series to more schools in the next academic year.
The aim of the series is to encourage young Caymanians to pursue relevant opportunities to help them secure future careers in the industry, such as applying for Cayman Finance’s LEAD work experience programme in Year 12 and studying mathematics at A Level.
Previous research by Cayman Finance found that A Level Mathematics is often the single subject that determines whether students can access top university programmes in accounting, economics, and finance, and in turn, whether they can pursue many careers in financial services.
Across all three disciplines, two-thirds (20 out of 30) of the most highly ranked courses at UK universities require A-Level Maths.
