The Cayman Islands hosted the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF)’s 18th Council of Ministers Meeting, welcoming ministers, attorneys general, senior officials and representatives from across the region for two days of discussion on the fight against money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

Held on 1 and 2 October, the meeting’s proceedings were organised by CFATF.

CFATF Chair the Hon. Wilfred Abrahams and Financial Action Task Force (FATF) President Mr Giles Thomson opened the meeting, following welcome remarks from our Premier and Minister of Financial Services and Commerce the Hon. André Ebanks MP, and Attorney General the Hon. Samuel Bulgin, KC, JP.

CFATF implements, monitors and enforces the FATF’s global standards against money laundering and terrorist financing in the Caribbean region. Meeting delegates considered a wide range of matters over the two days, including updates on FATF's 5th Round Mutual Evaluation Programme.

The Premier noted that hosting this meeting comes as the Cayman Islands continues preparing for our evaluation against the FATF standard, which CFATF will conduct in December 2027.

"It was a privilege for the Cayman Islands to welcome our regional partners for this important meeting, and we are pleased to have offered to continue in this role for future meetings,” he said.

“As we look ahead to our own assessment, this week's discussions are a timely reminder of the shared standards to which we all hold ourselves.”
