The Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce marked its 60th anniversary in memorable style with the return of the Business Excellence Awards at the Kimpton Seafire Resort & Spa. The gala brought together Government leaders, senior executives, and innovators for an evening filled with recognition, gratitude, and celebration. The night honoured two major milestones: six decades of Chamber leadership and the businesses and individuals who raise the bar for excellence, creativity, and community service. Chamber President Omari Corbin opened the ceremony with a message that set the pace for the night. “Tonight is about honouring those who have gone above and beyond, those businesses and individuals who remind us what is possible when we aim high, work hard, and stay true to our principles.” Celebrating Cayman’s Best Nine competitive categories highlighted the strength and diversity of Cayman’s business community. Winners were: • Business of the Year: Progressive Distributors Ltd • Small Business of the Year: Global Captive Management Ltd • Entrepreneur of the Year: Women’s Haven • Marketing Campaign: Cayman Finance • Innovation Award: Cayman National Bank • Community Impact Award: Health City Cayman Islands • Commitment to Education: Cayman Islands Health Services Authority • Training Champion: Cayman Islands Health Services Authority • ESG Award: RF Bank & Trust Runners-up included companies such as Cayman Airways, Corporate Electric, Rocky’s Diamond Gallery, and the Grand Cayman Marriott Resort, reflecting the depth of talent across the islands.

A Legacy Honoured: Berna Thompson Cummins, MBE One of the most powerful moments of the evening was the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Health City Cayman Islands, to Berna Thompson Cummins, MBE. She is an educator, former MLA, and the Chamber’s first female president. Health City’s Shomari Scott reflected on her lifelong service. “Berna has shaped our institutions, lifted our community, and inspired generations. From Rotary Sunrise to Jasmine Hospice, from the Garden Club to the Library Committee, her impact is immeasurable.” Berna’s story mirrors Cayman’s own growth. In a tribute video, she spoke about her mother’s influence, her years as Principal of Triple C School, and her leadership on boards from UCCI to the National Museum. She also recalled stepping into the family business with her brother ALT while still in their twenties. “They said, ‘You are not going to make it.’ It was quite a challenge, but we worked together and thank God we became successful.” When she took the stage, Berna was humble, heartfelt, and bold. “I am honoured and humbled to receive this award. Life is short, and we are put here to help each other and let our light shine. I challenge all the ladies here tonight: join the Chamber Council. We need more female presidents.” Her integrity and service were recognised in 1991 when she was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire. Today, her influence carries forward through her children and nine grandchildren. A Night of Reflection and Resolve Chamber CEO Wil Pineau, who has led the organisation since 1994, reflected on the Chamber’s journey. “Tonight is not only a celebration of the past. It is a tribute to the people, the programs, and the purpose that have shaped the Chamber over six decades.”
Premier Hon. Andre Ebanks reaffirmed the Government’s partnership with the private sector. “Together, we will continue to create opportunities for our people, support innovation, and uphold the Cayman Islands’ reputation as a place where business and community flourish side by side.” Looking Ahead As the Chamber enters its seventh decade, the Business Excellence Awards stand as a reminder of what the Cayman business community can achieve through vision, collaboration, and a steady commitment to excellence.
