The Cayman Islands Psychological Association (CIPA) has been formally accepted as a member of the Caribbean Alliance of National Psychological Associations (CANPA), marking a historic milestone for the local profession. CIPA’s membership will be officially recognized next week during the 6th Biennial Caribbean Regional Conference of Psychology (CRCP) in Barbados.

This significant development not only signals the Cayman Islands’ growing presence in the regional psychology community but also comes at a time of unprecedented participation by CIPA at the conference. For the first time, three members of CIPA’s Board will present at CRCP, with a total delegation of eight professionals representing Cayman.

“We are honoured to be welcomed into the CANPA community and proud to have our voices contributing to the regional dialogue on mental health and psychological science,” said Dr Shannon Seymour, Chair of CIPA. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our members and the growing impact of the Cayman Islands in the Caribbean psychological landscape.”

The CRCP, taking place from June 9–13, brings together psychologists, researchers, and mental health professionals from across the region to share best practices, explore pressing issues, and strengthen collaboration among national associations. During the conference’s closing ceremony, which will be broadcast live online, CIPA will also be announced as the host association for CRCP 2027, an honour that positions Cayman to lead the next chapter of regional advancement in psychology.

“Our selection as host for CRCP2027 is a tremendous vote of confidence,” said Seymour. “It speaks to the strength, professionalism, and potential of Cayman’s mental health community.”
