The sun rose over the lush greens of North Sound Golf Club on September 5th, 2025, as golfers, sponsors, and supporters gathered for a tradition that has grown stronger with every passing year—the Cayman Islands Red Cross (CIRC) Annual Golf Tournament. Now in its 27th year, the tournament was not just about drives and putts; it was about community, resilience, and the enduring mission of the Red Cross.

This year’s event raised more than $78,000, funds that will directly sustain CIRC’s core programmes: Disaster Management, First Aid & Lifeguarding, Child Protection & Sexuality Education, Support Our Seniors, and the Thrift Shop Community Outreach Programme. Since its founding in 1961, the Cayman Islands Red Cross has stood at the forefront of disaster preparedness and community care, and this tournament once again brought people together in support of that mission.

The day began with an official opening by the Hon. Isaac Rankine, Minister for Youth, Sports, Culture & Heritage. With hurricane season in full swing, his words carried a powerful reminder of why the Red Cross’s work matters so deeply:

“The Red Cross plays an essential role in our community. As we move through hurricane season, the organization remains ready and prepared to respond. I extend my gratitude to the Red Cross for its unwavering dedication, compassion, and commitment to protecting and supporting our people in times of need. Their work in hurricane preparedness—through shelter management, emergency training, and the strategic placement of emergency supplies—strengthens our islands’ resilience year after year. Beyond disaster response, initiatives such as Support Our Seniors ensure that some of our most valued and vulnerable citizens are not only cared for, but also remain connected, respected, and supported throughout the year.”

The tournament once again enjoyed the steadfast support of CIBC Caribbean, serving as Headline Sponsor for the seventh consecutive year. Gemel Sobers, Head of Country, reflected on the bank’s commitment:

“So many individuals and companies have contributed to the success of the CIBC Caribbean Red Cross Annual Golf Tournament. We see tangible evidence of this again this year with your overwhelming response to this event. We are thrilled to be in our 7th year of title sponsorship of such a purposeful initiative that benefits us all in the Cayman Islands.”

The sense of generosity carried through the day. TRAC Automotive added excitement with a Hole-in-One prize of a brand-new car, while Foster’s Food Fair kept everyone refreshed with food supplies. After a day on the greens, participants gathered for a delicious BBQ catered by Dining@Home, where stories, laughter, and camaraderie flowed as easily as the refreshments.

The tournament drew support from more than 30 companies, including Platinum and Gold sponsors CINICO, Calderwood, CWCO, Maples, GCM, Highvern, RSM, Elite Marble & Granite, Health City, Ocean Med, and Wheaton Precious Metals.

CIRC Chairman Doug Moffat expressed his gratitude:

“The funds raised through this tournament directly support our programmes. From disaster management and first aid training to empowering youth and caring for seniors, this event ensures the Red Cross can continue its mission of service year-round.”

CIRC Director Jondo Obi echoed the importance of the community’s generosity:

“The proceeds from this tournament are essential to sustaining our community programmes. They help us prepare for hurricane season, support the most vulnerable, empower our community, and maintain our ongoing efforts in education, awareness, and prevention throughout the year.”

Of course, the competition brought its share of glory. Third place went to the VWM Capital team of Dallas Neatham, Nate Smith, Luke LaPointe, and Nicholas Teasdale. Second place was secured by Calderwood’s Ronan Guilfoyle, Tim Spencer, Paul Macey, and Steven Lill. And taking home the first-place trophy was the RSM team—Platinum Sponsors who showcased both skill and strategy through Andrew Jarvis, Alex Bodden, Will Kountey, and Mark Aylward.

As the day drew to a close, one truth was clear: this was more than a golf tournament. It was a celebration of community resilience, of partnerships that matter, and of a shared belief in caring for one another.

The Cayman Islands Red Cross looks ahead with the same spirit of service and collaboration, continuing its mission to protect, prepare, and empower the community for whatever challenges may come.
