Each of these finalists exemplifies excellence in their field, demonstrating innovation, community impact, and a commitment to advancing the Cayman Islands. Lifetime Achievement Honouree: Berna Thompson Cummins, MBE Berna Thompson Cummins, MBE, is a pioneer in Caymanian business and public service. From her early days as an educator and school principal to her leadership role in expanding the family business, A.L. Thompson’s, she has helped shape Cayman’s economic landscape with purpose and vision. Her contributions to public life include serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for George Town (1992–1996), where she championed improvements in education, infrastructure, and the local economy. She broke barriers as the first female President of the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce in 1989. She served on numerous boards, including the Port Authority, University College of the Cayman Islands, and the Museum Board of Control. A lifelong advocate for education, culture, and women in leadership, Mrs. Cummins has also made lasting contributions to community life—whether through Rotary, youth sports, civic committees, or her ongoing role with Jasmine Hospice, where she has served for over 18 years. In 1991, her outstanding public service was recognised when she was appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Today, she continues to inspire generations of Caymanians through her integrity, generosity, and relentless pursuit of progress. The Chamber is proud to honour Mrs Cummins for a lifetime of service and impact. Reflecting on the milestone event, Chamber President Omari Corbin said: “This 60th anniversary celebration is not only a tribute to the achievements of today’s finalists, but a reflection on how far we’ve come as an organisation. What began in 1965 as a group of 10 determined Caymanian business leaders has grown into a national institution representing every corner of our business community. The Chamber has become a trusted advocate for progress, supporting, promoting, and protecting the interests of our members and the wider Cayman Islands. This legacy wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of countless volunteers, corporate leaders, and community partners over the decades. We are deeply grateful to all those who have given their time, leadership, and resources to move the Chamber forward. Chamber CEO Wil Pineau also extended appreciation to the community for the overwhelming engagement in this year’s nomination process: We received more than 50 nominations across our award categories—each one a testament to the incredible contributions our members are making across every industry sector. These submissions reflect the energy and commitment businesses are pouring into community impact, youth empowerment, training, workforce development, and innovation. The sheer calibre of entries made the judging process especially challenging, and we thank every nominee for their dedication to building a better Cayman.” Celebrate With Us This year’s Business Excellence Awards will feature a red-carpet reception, elegant dinner, and a celebration of the individuals and organisations that are shaping the future of the Cayman Islands.
