As the Cayman Islands Chamber of Commerce celebrates its 60th anniversary, its legacy of championing small businesses continues with a renewed focus on entrepreneurial training. This October, the Chamber is offering two complementary courses designed to help entrepreneurs and small business owners not only launch their ventures but also shape them into purpose-driven, resilient brands.

“How to Start a Business 101” is a comprehensive guide for aspiring entrepreneurs and those looking to realign an existing business. Facilitated by Lauren Christie, a Chartered Accountant (ACA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) with over 16 years of experience in financial services, the course walks participants through every step of business creation—from idea generation and market research to budgeting, legal compliance, and logistics. Lauren began her career with KPMG in London before relocating to the Cayman Islands in 2008, where she now works with Berman Fisher, providing outsourced accounting and CFO services to operating companies. She is also a member of several professional organizations, including the CFA Society of the Cayman Islands and 100 Women in Finance.

The course, which takes place at the Chamber Conference Room, Governor’s Square, on 15 October from 9:00 am – to 1:00 pm, covers everything from creating a business plan and understanding financial fundamentals to setting up office infrastructure and developing a marketing strategy. It’s designed to give participants the confidence and clarity they need to take the next step in their entrepreneurial journey.

Complementing this is “Tell Your Brand Story,” led by Lynn Markoff, Founder and President of Convey Communications Ltd. With over 30 years of experience in branding, communications, and change management, Lynn has worked with leading organisations including Dart Enterprises, Maples Group, Flow, and the Cayman Islands Government.

Her workshop, which takes place on 21 Oct from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the Chamber Conference Room, helps participants uncover and articulate the values that drive their business, providing tools and templates to build an authentic brand story. Lynn’s approach is rooted in helping entrepreneurs discover what matters most to them and how to communicate that clearly to customers and employees alike.

Together, these two courses offer a powerful combination—one focused on building a business from the ground up, and the other on shaping its identity and voice. Chamber Training Coordinator Emily Sintorn emphasizes their importance: “These courses are absolutely vital for any business looking to grow with intention. Branding isn’t just about visuals—it’s about knowing who you are, what you stand for, and how to communicate that clearly to your customers. And starting a business with the right foundation makes all the difference.”

This training series reflects the Chamber’s enduring mission: to provide relevant, high-impact support to Cayman’s business community.
