The Cayman Islands Fire Service is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Gilbert Rankin as Divisional Manager (Aerodrome), effective 1 September 2026. In his new role, Mr. Rankin will support the Deputy Chief Fire Officer (Aerodrome) in providing strategic leadership, maintaining operational readiness, and overseeing the delivery of emergency fire and rescue services within the Aerodrome Division. As Divisional Manager, Mr. Rankin’s responsibilities will include supporting the management of aerodrome operations, responding to calls and operational duties as required, assisting with the development and implementation of divisional goals, objectives, policies, and priorities, and contributing to the development of new fire regulations. He will also support departmental budget planning, oversee the specification and procurement of equipment, personal protective clothing, apparatus, and supplies, and supervise between thirty and sixty (30-60) staff members. Mr. Rankin brings more than thirty-nine (39) years of aerodrome firefighting experience to the role, supported by more than forty-one (41) years of service within the Civil Service. His career with CIFS has included service as Sub Officer, Station Officer (Aerodrome), Acting Divisional Manager (Aerodrome), Acting Senior Divisional Officer (Aerodrome), Acting Deputy Chief Fire Officer (Aerodrome), and Acting Chief Fire Officer.
Reflecting on his appointment, Mr. Rankin said: “I am grateful for the confidence placed in me through this appointment. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated officers to continue delivering the highest standards of airport firefighting and rescue services.” Chief Fire Officer D. Randy Rankin congratulated Mr. Rankin on his appointment, noting that his experience and leadership will be valuable to the continued development of the Aerodrome Division.
