CIFS Respond to Fire at Landfill

The Cayman Islands Fire Service (CIFS) is responding to an incident at the George Town landfill Tuesday evening.

CIFS crews were dispatched just before 7pm when open flames were observed from the top of the landfill.

CIFS crews have worked hard with DEH colleagues to extinguish the small fire. They will remain on scene to excavate and damp down surrounding area to reduce the chance of re-ignition.

There is limited impact from smoke to surrounding residents and businesses.
