CIG Launches 2025 Giving Tree Initiative
Government
26 November 2025, 05:27 AM

The Cayman Islands Government (CIG) has launched its annual Giving Tree initiative, a corporate social responsibility programme designed to bring Christmas joy to vulnerable families and individuals across the islands. The initiative kicked off last week (17 November) with wish trees available in the Government Administration Building in Grand Cayman and the District Administration Office in Cayman Brac.

The CIG Giving Tree partners with three key organisations to identify recipients in need at the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), Family Resource Centre (FRC) and the Department of Financial Assistance (DFA). Wishes ranging from children's toys and clothing to grocery store vouchers have been placed on the trees, offering donors a direct way to make a meaningful difference in the community.

“When civil servants come together for a common cause, we have the power to achieve great things,” said Acting Deputy Governor and Chief Officer in the Portfolio of the Civil Service Gloria McField-Nixon. “Every gift that is given will bring a smile to a child, remind our elderly that they are cherished and renew hope to countless families across our community. By fulfilling a wish from the CIG Giving Tree, we are keeping alive the very best of Caymanian traditions.”

The initiative welcomes participation from civil servants and members of the general public alike. Gifts may be purchased individually or as part of group efforts, with departments and units encouraged to pool resources for larger requests such as laptops for students or family dining gift certificates.

Interested members of the public can select from the available wishes and deliver the unwrapped gifts in gift bags with the wish tag attached by Wednesday, 17 December 2025. Gifts should be placed under the CIG Giving Tree, where staff from the partner organisations will sort and distribute them to recipients.

Deputy Chief Officer in the Portfolio of the Civil Service Ryan Rajkumarsingh underscored the programme’s significance, “The CIG Giving Tree plays a vital role in supporting those in need and continues to provide meaningful assistance to recipients across DCFS, FRC and DFA. By giving back, we can help make Christmas a little brighter for these families this year.”

There will be an official gift handover ceremony with the DCFS, FRC and DFA. Participants are encouraged to stay tuned to official government channels for the announcement.
