The Cayman Islands Institute of Professional Accountants welcomed three new members to its Council while also appointing a trio of officers Friday, 10 March during its 2023 Annual General Meeting at the George Town Yacht Club.

Rennie Khan will continue to serve as CIIPA President while Rosa Nolan will serve as Vice President and James George as Secretary until the next AGM.

In an ever-changing world, the accountancy profession, too, remains poised to transform and re-invent itself,” said Khan, a partner at KPMG. The next 10 years are likely to look very different than the last 10 as accountants continue to emerge as pivotal players solving some of our most significant challenges like combatting climate change, money laundering and ensuring that the standards we set for professional ethics and quality assurance keep pace.”

CIIPAs 15-member Council comprises Serge Berube, Marlon Bispath, Edward Gwekwete, Francois Lamontagne, Ben Leung, Mike Mannisto, Ewan McGill, Laurie Mernett, Jeff Short, Craig Smith, Peter Small and Yuri Williams as well as Khan, Nolan and George. Bispath, Gwekwete and McGill are set to serve their first term on the Council.

The Council is responsible for the overall management of the affairs of CIIPA, in accordance with CIIPA's Articles of Association. The organisation's first Chief Executive Officer, Sheree Ebanks, was appointed in 2014 to lead the way to achieving CIIPA's strategic objectives.

“2022 was a year full of challenges and opportunities everywhere, but especially for accounting professionals in the Cayman Islands. At CIIPA, we are proud of the work we’ve done to assist our members,” Ebanks said, pointing to initiatives to help create guidance relating to the financial and professional services bans in Russia and Belarus, matters of sustainability and assisting local firms with issues relating to talent attraction and retention.

Other business included the reception and adoption of CIIPAs audited accounts for the financial period ending 31 Dec., and to approve the appointment of the auditors as well as to receive the Presidents and CEOs Report.
