The Cayman Islands National Insurance Company (CINICO) has partnered with Inspire Cayman Training to launch the Safe Driver Programme, a new initiative designed to improve driving safety on Cayman’s roads.

The increasing number of vehicles on Cayman’s roads makes improving safety a priority. In particular, new drivers are at higher risk, due to inexperience that often contributes to more accidents.

The Safe Driver Programme directly addresses this concern by helping new drivers develop the skills, confidence, and awareness needed to stay safe on Cayman’s roads.

It combines classroom instruction with simulator training to strengthen driver awareness and encourage responsible decision-making. Course participants will learn about Cayman’s driving laws, local road conditions, basic vehicle maintenance as well as recognising risk, managing fatigue, and alcohol and drug awareness so they can handle real-world driving scenarios safely.

Drivers aged 17–20, and those with less than two years of driving experience since the first issue of their Cayman driver’s license are eligible to participate in the Safe Driver Programme. Those referred by CINICO receive a discounted rate of $290 from Inspire (standard fee $350), and upon successful completion, may also qualify for reductions in CINICO motor insurance premiums.

The partnership between CINICO and Inspire Cayman Training reflects a shared vision of safer roads, stronger communities, and more responsible Cayman drivers through a commitment to creating innovative solutions with real impact.

“As a government-owned insurer, our concern extends beyond those we insure—it extends to everyone in the Cayman Islands,” said Michael Gayle, CEO of CINICO. “Through this partnership with Inspire Cayman, we’re helping reduce accidents, protect families, and create safer driving conditions for all residents.”

For Inspire Cayman Training, administering the Safe Driver Programme supports its mission to equip Caymanians with the skills and qualifications to succeed in the workforce and strengthen the local economy.

“At Inspire Cayman Training, we believe that change starts with education,” said Gabby Myles, Managing Director. “The Safe Driver Programme helps young and new drivers understand not only the rules of the road, but also how their decisions can impact lives. By working together with CINICO, we’re helping to shape safer habits and a stronger sense of care across our community.”

The Safe Driver Programme classes and simulation training will take place at Inspire Cayman Training’s offices on 131 Maclendon Drive, located directly across from the Airport Post Office in Grand Cayman.

Participants can apply online at cinico.ky/safe-driver-programme. CINICO will review applications and refer eligible individuals to Inspire Cayman Training, who will contact participants to schedule classes. CINICO will also review applications to determine if participants qualify for motor insurance premium discounts.

Participation in the Safe Driver Programme doesn’t guarantee motor insurance cover, however, all participants referred by CINICO are eligible for the discounted rate from Inspire Cayman Training.
