On Thursday (9 September), the Clifton Hunter High School activated its planned COVID 19 response measures after being notified that two of its students might have been exposed to the virus.

The school's Principal, Dr. Richard Wildman, commented, "Since receiving notification that two of our students may have been exposed to COVID 19, we immediately isolated the students as stipulated by the Department of Education Services (DES)." We also contacted their parents to collect the children from school to maintain the health and safety in our school."

The two students subsequently tested negative for the virus.

The Director of the Department of Education Services (DES), Mr. Mark Ray, used the opportunity to reassure parents of schools' preparedness to respond in the event of a suspected case.

"The DES takes seriously the health and safety of our students and the trust that their parents have placed in our schools. This morning's incident was a clear test of our schools' preparedness to take the necessary steps to ensure that trust is maintained. Although the school didn't need to execute all of the measures included in our Continuity of Operations Plan, it will continue to observe the health and safety protocols that have become routine in our schools since the initial onset of the COVID 19 pandemic."

Health and safety protocols currently observed in Government Schools include:

  • The mandatory wearing of masks on school buses
  • Daily cleaning protocols to include the frequent wipe down of surfaces and high contact areas, and
  • The placement of safety signage at strategic locations in schools.
