Cayman National Cultural Foundation’s (CNCF) celebration of all things arts and culture continues with Dress For Culture Day, the organisation’s annual ‘dress up, dress down’ fundraiser, which takes place on Friday, 13 March. Schools, businesses and individuals across the Cayman Islands are invited to get creative and display their homeland pride and cultural attire on that day.

CNCF is asking for a donation of $5 per adult and $3 per student from those who choose to participate in the fundraiser.  Monies raised go toward CNCF youth programmes such as Young at Arts and supporting the development of the Cayman Islands Folk Singers.

“In a world that is filled with growing divisions among people who identify differently, here in the Cayman Islands over 100 nationalities live harmoniously, intermingling their cultures while maintaining the uniqueness and traditions they each hold dear.  Dress For Culture Day is one of the ways that CNCF pays tribute to this diversity,” said CNCF Managing Director Marcia Muttoo.

Participants in Dress for Culture Day will also have the chance to win prizes in the categories of Best School, Best Organisation and Best Student/Individual. To enter, photos must be submitted to CNCF and will be shared on CNCF’s social media channels for the general public to vote for their favourite in each category.

Mrs. Muttoo said that members of the public can organise their own Dress For Culture Day any time during the year if this year’s designated day is not convenient.

“We believe cultural diversity can be appreciated at any time, and we encourage people to connect with one another and celebrate our extraordinary cultural tapestry as much as possible,” she said.  “CNCF also welcomes Dress for Culture donations, and any other contributions, throughout the year and thanks the public for its ongoing support of our arts and culture initiatives.”
