Construction of New Dock Begins at East End Heritage Beach

The Ministry of Planning, Lands, Agriculture, Housing & Infrastructure (PLAHI) is proud to announce the official commencement of the Construction on a brand-new dock at the East End Heritage Beach. This project forms part of the Ministry’s broader infrastructure strategy to enhance public coastal facilities across all three islands while preserving Cayman’s maritime heritage.

The East End Heritage Dock is more than just a structure—it is a vital part of our cultural and economic fabric. For generations, Caymanians have relied on these docks for personal and commercial use, particularly in relation to fishing, transportation, and the sharing of our island’s seafaring traditions. The construction efforts are a commitment to preserving that legacy for future generations.

The original dock at this location, a longstanding community asset, was severely damaged by Hurricane Grace in 2021 and later rendered completely unusable following Hurricane Beryl in 2024. In response, the Ministry prioritized not only the replacement of the structure, but also its strategic relocation a few feet further away from the existing boat ramp. This move will help eliminate long-standing safety and access issues caused by the close proximity of the ramp and dock—ensuring safer and more efficient use for both recreational and commercial boaters.

“This is about more than just infrastructure; it’s about honoring where we come from,” said Hon. Johany "Jay" Ebanks, Minister for Planning, Agriculture, Housing, Infrastructure, Transport & Development. “We believe food security begins at home, and what better place to start than where it all began—at sea. By building a stronger, more resilient dock, individuals and families can continue the traditions of our forefathers while benefiting from improved access and safety.”

The project is also aligned with the Ministry’s goals of improving national infrastructure, preserving maritime heritage, and ensuring continued public access to safe and sustainable coastal facilities.

Hon. Isaac Rankine said “Shared visions and partnerships between the Ministry of Youth, Sports, Culture & Heritage (MYSCH) and the Ministry of PLAHI will ensure the success of projects like these. Embracing our past and planning for the future, demonstrates our commitment to our communities. I am pleased that MYSCH has been able to provide necessary resources towards this initiative, and I look forward to future partnerships for our communities.”
