Dart is pleased to announce 18-year-old Dylan Levy as the recipient of its 2025 William A. Dart Memorial Scholarship. Dylan, a graduate of John Gray High School, completed his A Levels with exceptional A* grades at Cayman Prep & High School. He has been accepted to the University of Bath in England and is expected to begin his bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences in the fall.

Dylan says he’s been interested in the healthcare industry, and specifically the human body, since he was young, when his father was injured in an accident. “Witnessing the medical care that aided his recovery sparked a deep respect for the healthcare system,” said Dylan. That experience, and a genuine sense of curiosity to learn more about medicine and the differing roles of healthcare professionals, has been integral in shaping Dylan’s life and studies.

While at John Gray High School, Dylan explored how music positively impacts the brain; and, later, during his A Level studies, he completed an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) study on the extent of influence artificial intelligence has had in the healthcare industry. Dylan shared that the EPQ reinforced his “desire to pursue a field where biology and chemistry combine to drive innovation and produce life-changing outcomes.”

“This year, we received 45 applications for the William A. Dart Memorial Scholarship,” said Glenda McTaggart, senior manager, education programmes at Dart. “Each applicant’s story is incredibly inspiring; some of these students are so driven and ambitious and have a clear vision of where they want to go in life, and those career choices have the potential to be extraordinarily impactful on the Cayman Islands community as a whole.”

The William A. Dart Memorial Scholarship is granted on an annual basis to one university scholar through a competitive and blind selection process, whereby the applications are reviewed solely on the basis of academic achievements, merit, community involvement and the perceived future impact the applicant will have in society.

“Dylan has consistently achieved strong academic results and demonstrated a clear commitment to supporting his community, which are leadership qualities we value in our applicants,” said Mark VanDevelde, chief executive officer at Dart. “We wish him the very best as he takes the next step in his education.”

In addition to his academic achievements, Dylan currently serves as chairperson of the Leo’s Club and is a member of the Cayman Arts Festival choir. He has volunteered at the Cayman Islands Cancer Society and, in 2024, was given the unique and immeasurable opportunity to intern at Health City Cayman Islands. “These experiences opened my eyes to how medical professionals work together to deliver life-saving care,” concluded Dylan.
