The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is reminding North Side and East End residents that the schedule for the collection of bulk waste in those districts will be completed on Saturday, November 27, 2021, as this year collection of bulk items comes to an end.

Over the last four weeks, the DEH collection crew collected hundreds of tons of bulk waste with the cooperation of residents who piled these items on the curbside across Grand Cayman. The teams concentrated their efforts in each district, dedicating an entire week to touring the area as scheduled and collecting large items such as old furniture, mattresses, rugs, household appliances, carpeting, scrap metals and vegetative waste.

“We want to thank all those who complied with the collection schedule and the guidelines provided for a smooth clean-up of the island. At the same time, we want to confirm that there will not be any extension of the collection schedule. Any bulk waste that is put out after the announced dates will not be collected. Alternative arrangements should be made by individuals to transport these items to the George Town landfill drop off”, explained Michael Haworth, DEH Assistant Director Solid Waste.

The George Town Landfill operates from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays, until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and it is closed on Sunday. However, the landfill drop-off facility at the gate will remain accessible for the public and small vehicles 24 hours per day.
