Grand Cayman, August 10, 2026 – The Department of Environmental Health (DEH), in
partnership with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS), carried out a joint
clean-up and enforcement operation in the Watlers Road community on Wednesday,
August 5, 2026.
The initiative formed part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to improve environmental
health conditions, enhancing public safety and addressing issues associated with derelict
vehicles and illegal dumping in residential communities.
During the operation, DEH officers targeted several nuisance vehicles that had become a
source of environmental and public health concern. A total of eight cars, one boat, one
wave runner, and a considerable amount of bulk waste were removed from the area.
The operation involved three Environmental Health Officers (EHOs) and one Environmental
Health Assistant (EHA), supported by the DEH Solid Waste Management team. Officers
from the RCIPS Community Policing Division and the Firearms Unit provided security,
community engagement and mediation throughout the operation to ensure the initiative was
conducted safely and efficiently.
Commenting on the success of the operation, DEH Director Richard Simms said: “Every
community deserves a clean and safe environment. The removal of these nuisance
vehicles and waste materials is an important step towards improving the quality of life for
residents. Our teams will continue working proactively with our partners to address
environmental health concerns and maintain the high standards expected across the
Cayman Islands”.

in creating cleaner, safer and healthier communities across the Cayman Islands.
