The Department of Education Services (DES) is aware of an incident where a student was found to be in possession of a knife while travelling on the bus to Red Bay Primary School (RBPS) this morning.
DES Director, Mr. Mark Ray, noted, “The wellbeing of our students and staff is central to everything we do. We take any matter that may compromise safety very seriously, and remain committed to fostering an environment in which all members of the school community feel secure and respected.”
The RBPS has begun its internal investigations into the incident and is following established procedures to address the situation.
These procedures include engagement with the parents of the student involved, as well as outreach to any students who may have been directly impacted.
Mr. Ray added, “We are working closely with the school’s leadership to ensure that students who were on the bus at the time of the incident have access to appropriate counselling and support. Our priority is to help them process the experience and to reaffirm that their safety is always our greatest concern.”
