13 August 2025 – Grand Cayman – The Honourable Franz Manderson, Deputy Governor of the Cayman Islands, has announced his intention to retire from the Civil Service next year. His retirement will take effect 7 July 2026.
Mr. Manderson formally notified Her Excellency the Governor, Members of Cabinet, and the Civil Service senior leadership team of his decision. He also shared the news directly with all civil servants in a written memorandum.
In that message, he reflected:
“I will retire from the Civil Service exactly 44 years after I first began my journey as a young intern, and after 14 years serving as your Deputy Governor and Head of the Civil Service.”
He added that he looks forward to spending more time with his family and embracing the next chapter of his life.
Appointed as Deputy Governor and Head of the Civil Service in February 2012 by His Excellency the Governor—following consultation with the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State—Mr. Manderson has played a pivotal role in public administration for over a decade.
Before his appointment as Deputy Governor, he served as Chief Immigration Officer and later as Chief Officer in the Portfolio of Internal and External Affairs.
The process to recruit a new Deputy Governor will be led by Her Excellency the Governor in the coming months to ensure a smooth transition.
