On Wednesday, 8 July, Mrs Gloria McField-Nixon formally took her oath of office and was sworn in as Deputy Governor and Head of the Cayman Islands Civil Service during a special ceremony in Cabinet.
Her Excellency the Governor, Mrs Jane Owen, congratulated Mrs McField-Nixon and reaffirmed her confidence in the appointment. "I am delighted to welcome Gloria McField-Nixon in her new role as Deputy Governor. Miss Gloria brings many years of experience and professionalism in public service, and I know she has clear plans for supporting our staff and developing the whole Civil Service to meet the challenges of the future, building on the great work of DG Franz Manderson. I am greatly looking forward to working together as we continue to deliver for the people of the Cayman Islands."
Mrs McField-Nixon most recently served as the Chief Officer in the Portfolio of the Civil Service, where she led government-wide human resource policy, public sector reform and corporate governance. Throughout her career, Mrs McField-Nixon has accumulated vast experience across multiple ministries, including those responsible for finance and tourism, regularly serving as Acting Deputy Governor over the past several years.
Speaking after taking her oath of office, Deputy Governor McField-Nixon said, "Today is not just a personal milestone—it is a moment I share with every civil servant who has supported and worked alongside me throughout my career. I am honoured to be part of the continuing legacy of dedicated public service and to take up this role with a commitment to building on the strong foundation laid by those who came before me.
“I am also deeply grateful to the many persons who have reached out to offer their encouragement and support. As the first woman to serve in this role, I hope this appointment inspires young ladies to dream boldly and to see themselves in leadership positions and professions where women are not yet fully represented.”
Mrs McField-Nixon succeeds Mr Franz Manderson, who retired after four decades of service on Tuesday, 7 July 2026.
