The National Gallery of the Cayman Islands (NGCI) is delighted to announce a continued partnership with EY Cayman to support the Cayman Islands’ senior community. The EY Seniors Programme is a long-running initiative at the Gallery designed to create opportunities for community elders and support ‘active aging’, a concept which describes remaining physically and mentally active and engaged during retirement to improve wellness. The EY Seniors Programme supports this aim through opportunities for lifelong learning, social interaction and the sharing of stories prompted by artwork from the National Art Collection.

In an ongoing commitment to accessibility and inclusion, and through EY Cayman’s generous sponsorship, sessions are available to seniors at no cost, with the option of included transportation. Sessions take place every-other-month on Grand Cayman, twice annually in Cayman Brac and once annually in Little Cayman. Accessibility equipment is available upon request for greater mobility in the Grand Cayman gallery spaces, including an elevator, rollator, wheelchair and increased seating.

Sessions include a curator-led tour of the National Collection exhibition, during which participants can absorb and discuss culturally significant artwork that may prompt nostalgic conversations around heritage and community. Tours are followed by a complimentary cup of tea and sweet treat, further socialising, and enjoyment of NGCI’s sculpture garden and gallery spaces.

These in-person tour and tea sessions are intimate affairs, with groups numbering around 25, to help mitigate potential covid-19 health and safety concerns. In addition, the National Gallery continues to operate its increased health and safety protocols, such as additional cleaning, mask wearing, social distancing, and hand sanitizing to protect its visitors.

NGCI has had a long-term commitment to helping the Cayman community access the healing power of art, to find out more about NGCI Wellness, please visit https://www.nationalgallery.org.ky/wellness/
