Flag Lowering Ceremony Held for Former MP Austin O. Harris, Jr.

The Cayman Islands Government hosted a flag lowering ceremony outside the Government Administration Building this morning (Thursday, 19 February) in honour of former Member of Parliament, Austin Osmond Harris Jr., who passed away on Tuesday, 27 January.

In attendance were Her Excellency Governor Jane Owen, Deputy Governor Honourable Franz Manderson, members of Cabinet, Parliamentarians, civil servants and family members.

As a mark of respect, the Cayman Islands flag will be flown at half-mast at all Government buildings today, Thursday 19 and Friday 20 February through to the end of day. Government buildings operating during the weekend period will continue to fly flag at half-mast, returning to full mast on Monday, 23 February 2026.

Key ceremonial events that will be held to honour Mr. Harris include:

  • Lying-in-State, House of Parliament, George Town, Grand Cayman – Friday, 20 February 2026 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
  • An official funeral service, Church of God Chapel, Walkers Road, George Town, Grand Cayman on Sunday, 22 February 2026 at 3:00 p.m.
