The governing body for the sport of ultimate frisbee in the Cayman Islands held its 2020 AGM and laid out its plans for the year.

Cayman Islands Ultimate (CIU) addressed its members after a game-day on Thursday, 6 February, at the Annex (formally known as the T.E. McField Sports Centre) in George Town. The 2020-2021 executive board was ratified with the following names and positions:

  • Michael Kader – President
  • Adam McSharry-Downie – Vice President
  • Jared Awe – Secretary
  • Joshua Browne – Treasurer
  • Matthew Yates – Public Relations
  • Flip Du Plessis – Executive member
  • Allan Evans – Executive member

Mr. Awe and Mr. Evans are newcomers to the CIU board, with the others having served in leadership positions since 2018.

The plans for the 2020 campaign include a 6-week league, local hat (i.e. pick-up) competitions, and incorporating more beach game-days.

“CIU had a great year in 2019 as we successfully managed a number of tournaments and our national select team competed admirably in Kingston against our Jamaican counterparts,” CIU President Michael Kader said. “With the new administration now formally in place, we’ve put ourselves in a great position to continue the positive momentum this year”.

CIU is a registered non-profit association with the Cayman Islands Government, having received its official Non-Profit Organisation status in July 2018. CIU stages casual, coed pick-up games on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Annex from roughly 6pm to 7:30pm. All fitness and ability levels are welcome.
