The Health Services Authority (HSA) confirms that a small electrical fire occurred in the laboratory at the Anthony S. Eden Hospital on 24th August 2026.
The incident was promptly extinguished by HSA staff using a fire extinguisher.
Damage was localised to the outlet; the laboratory did not sustain any damage.
Once the all clear was given by the Cayman Islands Fire Service, the hospital laboratory operations continued as usual.
HSA wishes to clarify misinformation circulating in the public describing the incident as a chemical fire. No chemicals were involved and no patients or staff members were injured.
