Dozens of civil servants congregated on the steps of the Government Administration Building on Friday, 8 March 2019, to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD).

The photo opportunity, organised by the Family Resource Centre (FRC), was one of 20 events it is holding to mark Honouring Women Month in March. Among the crowd taking part in the annual observance were Deputy Governor Franz Manderson, in his capacity as Head of the Civil Service; and Minister for Education, Youth, Sports, Agriculture and Lands, Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly, who first proposed that the Civil Service commemorate the observance 20 years ago.

The theme of International Women’s Day 2019 is #BalanceforBetter. The campaign is not just for IWD but runs year-round and seeks to encourage both collective and individual commitment to achieving total gender parity in all spheres of life.

Women make up 55 percent of the Cayman Islands Government workforce and hold key leadership positions across the Civil Service,” said the Deputy Governor. “As our contribution towards the empowerment and equality of women we will continue to support women in leadership, education and pay. We are committed to making the Civil Service a great place for women to work,” he concluded.
