Island Heritage Insurance Company, Ltd. (“Island Heritage” or “the Company”) announced that it has awarded its 2019 Educational Grant to Hugh Dontaye Thomas. Hugh attended University College of the Cayman Islands and graduated with an Associates Degree in Business Administration and a GPA of 3.08. Upon completion of his Associates degree, Hugh has been accepted at the University of Southampton to study Accounting and Finance.

Ian Campbell, Executive Vice President, P&C, at Island Heritage, stated: “We were extremely impressed with the caliber of applicants and each year it is difficult to have to pick one recipient.  Hugh stood out for his focus, determination and self-discipline.  His commitment to making a positive impact on his community through his passion for football and his church, along with his strong sense of integrity, reflect the values at the core of Island Heritage, and we are delighted to present him with the 2019 Educational Grant.”

Established 3 years ago in celebration of Island Heritage’s 20th anniversary, the Educational Grant offers a Caymanian student a US$5,000 award to help fund college or university studies. Criteria for selection include academic excellence, demonstrated leadership experience, and community engagement and service.  The recipient is selected by a committee of Island Heritage staff.
