Staff from across the Cayman Islands Judiciary came together on Saturday, 26 September for the Judiciary’s 2026 Staff Wellness Retreat at the Marriott Beach Resort.
The retreat provided an opportunity for staff to step away from the usual pace and pressures of the Courts and focus intentionally on individual and collective well-being.
Facilitated by Danielle Watler and Rita Dickens, the programme combined group sessions focused on connection, well-being and resilience with opportunities for reflection, relaxation and informal engagement among colleagues. The day was designed to provide both practical strategies for managing workplace pressures and genuine time to recharge.
The retreat builds on The Chief Justice, Hon. Justice Margaret Ramsay-Hale’s commitment earlier this year to place greater focus on staff well-being, putting that commitment into practice through an initiative shaped around the particular demands of working within the Courts.
Its timing was particularly relevant, coming as the Grand Court resumed its regular sittings following the summer recess and ahead of the International Judicial Conference on Integrity and Judicial Well-being, which the Cayman Islands Judiciary will co-host in November. The Conference will bring together judicial leaders and participants from around the world to consider integrity and well-being as important elements of strong and resilient justice institutions.
Court employees may regularly manage significant workloads and deadlines while engaging with people experiencing conflict and distress or dealing with difficult and sensitive matters. Supporting staff well-being and resilience is therefore an important part of building a strong and connected Judiciary and sustaining the effective delivery of court services.
