The Leadership Cayman Class of 2025 brought history to life on Saturday, June 21, with their signature class project: the Heritage Hunt — a vibrant, island-wide scavenger adventure designed to celebrate Cayman’s cultural and natural heritage while raising funds for a worthy cause. Organised in collaboration with the National Trust for the Cayman Islands, the event invited teams of families, friends, and corporate colleagues to explore Grand Cayman’s most iconic National Trust sites.
Participants followed clues, solved puzzles, and uncovered fascinating stories at each stop — all while racing the clock and each other in a friendly competition. The event was designed not just for fun, but to deepen public appreciation for the island’s rich history and environment.
The Leadership Cayman team, co-led by Genève Phillip-Durham and Pearl Moroka, saw the hunt as a way to connect the community with the places and stories that define Caymanian identity. Marketing efforts were led by Alanna Warwick-Smith, helping to spread the word and build excitement across the island. The day kicked off at Regatta Office Park with a safety briefing and clue handouts, and wrapped up with a festive celebration at the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park, which served as the final destination and event partner. There, finalists tackled a grand challenge, and teams were recognised for their creativity, teamwork, and spirit.
The park’s lush setting also reinforced the event’s message about the importance of conservation and cultural preservation. In total, 132 participants across 32 teams took part, supported by 37 volunteers who helped guide teams and keep the energy high throughout the day. The event raised CI $3,464, with CI $350 donated to the Botanic Park in appreciation of their support, and the remainder going to the National Trust to support site upkeep and educational programming. A huge thank you, on behalf of all the event organisers, to everyone who helped make the day such a success, including:
All proceeds from the event will support the National Trust’s mission to protect and promote the Cayman Islands’ unique natural and cultural heritage. The top three teams also received National Trust memberships as part of their prizes — a fitting reward for those who went above and beyond in their heritage-hunting efforts. The Heritage Hunt was a standout example of what Leadership Cayman is all about: empowering emerging leaders to make a tangible difference in their community, while celebrating the unique heritage that makes the Cayman Islands so special.
