Official state funeral proceedings have begun in honour of Mr. Benson O. Ebanks, OBE who passed away on Tuesday 29 March 2022. The Cayman Islands flag will be lowered from Wednesday 6 April through Friday 8 April 2022 to denote an official mourning period for the Cayman Islands.
On Thursday 7 April, events begin at 9:45am with a ceremonial lowering of the Cayman Islands flag to half-mast outside the Government Administration Building on Elgin Avenue. This will be attended by members of the family, but is also open to members of the public.

Later that morning, senior government officials will pay their respects, at the start of an official lying-in-state that will continue from 10am until 2pm. During this time, members of the public are invited to attend the House of Parliament to file past the coffin. A vigil party from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service will watch over the proceedings.
Following the lying-in-state, a hearse carrying Mr. Ebanks will travel from the House of Parliament throughout West Bay, the district where he lived and served as an elected official beginning at 2:30pm.

The Official Funeral for Mr. Benson O. Ebanks, OBE, will take place this on Friday 8 April at 3pm at the John Gray Memorial Church, West Bay (near the 4-way stop).
