Officers from the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control Service (CBC), with assistance from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS), arrested a 56-year-old man on Monday, 20 July 2026, on suspicion of overstaying his lawful permission to remain in the Cayman Islands.
The man is suspected of having remained unlawfully in the Cayman Islands for approximately 15 years. He was taken into custody during a CBC-led enforcement operation, supported by the RCIPS.
He appeared before the court on Thursday, 23 July 2026, and was remanded in custody until 14 October 2026.
Since the beginning of 2026, CBC has taken enforcement action against 379 individuals suspected of overstaying their lawful permission to remain in the Cayman Islands.
CBC reminds members of the public that overstaying is a serious offence. Any person who commits this offence is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine of $20,000 and to imprisonment for five years.

Let there be no misunderstanding: individuals who knowingly overstay or remain in the Cayman Islands without lawful permission will be identified and held accountable.
Our borders are not open to abuse, and the Cayman Islands will not be a soft target for those who disregard our laws. These enforcement actions demonstrate our commitment to protecting national security, maintaining the integrity of our immigration system, and ensuring fairness for those who respect and comply with the rules.

Director of CBC Marlon Bodden said, “These arrests send a clear and unequivocal message: the Cayman Islands will not tolerate individuals who deliberately violate the conditions of their lawful stay. CBC will continue to identify, apprehend and take decisive enforcement action against offenders. Anyone who chooses to disregard our laws should understand that they will be held accountable.”
