Marking 50 Years of Excellence, UCCI Calls for Community Investment in Cayman’s Next Chapter
Education
23 July 2025, 05:06 AM

In 2025, the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) is marking a historic milestone: 50 years of shaping lives, industries, and the future of the Cayman Islands through education. This golden anniversary is not only a celebration of UCCI’s legacy, but also a call to action to address the urgent challenges and opportunities facing Cayman’s workforce in a rapidly changing global economy.

Founded in 1975, UCCI has played a foundational role in developing the nation’s human capital, graduating thousands of professionals across key sectors such as business, education, health care, and public service. As Cayman confronts rapid technological disruption, growing sustainability imperatives, and a widening skills gap, UCCI is launching a year-long 50th Anniversary Campaign aimed at raising funds, forging strategic partnerships, and expanding access to transformative education.

Dr. Livingston Smith, Acting President and CEO of UCCI, stated, “We’re using this anniversary as a springboard to equip the next generation of Caymanian leaders with the skills they need to thrive in renewable energy, digital technology, finance, and more.”

The 50th Anniversary Campaign Includes:

  • Gala Dinner honouring five decades of academic impact and community leadership
  • UCCI Community Marathon promoting health, unity, and access to education
  • Distinguished Lecture Series featuring global and regional thought leaders
  • Launch of the UCCI Foundation to drive sustainable philanthropic growth
  • The 50–50 Scholarship Fund supporting 50 Caymanians for 50 more years of impact

Corporate and community sponsors are invited to join this landmark initiative, with packages that provide visibility across all major events, media campaigns, and commemorative materials. From naming rights and VIP gala access to marathon branding and yearbook features, sponsors will not only enhance their brand profile but directly contribute to Cayman’s future prosperity.

“This campaign will remove barriers to higher education for young Caymanians, attract world-class educators, and modernize UCCI’s facilities and programmes,” Dr. Smith added. “When you invest in UCCI, you invest in the future of the entire Cayman Islands.”

Sponsors will also benefit from increased networking with government, industry, and civic leaders; brand alignment with innovation and impact; and the opportunity to play a direct role in shaping Cayman’s economic resilience for decades to come.
