Honourable Rolston Anglin, Minister for Education and Training, marked International Literacy Day with a message celebrating the transformative power of literacy in shaping individuals, communities, and the future of the Cayman Islands.
In his address, Minister Anglin underscored that literacy is far more than the ability to read and write; it is the cornerstone of education, opportunity, and national development.
Reflecting on this year’s theme, ‘Promoting Literacy in the Digital Era’, he noted, “While technology transforms how we learn, literacy remains at the core.”
The Minister also expressed heartfelt appreciation to those supporting literacy efforts across the Islands: “Literacy starts at home and in the classroom — with parents reading to children, teachers igniting curiosity, and communities that value learning, Thank you to our educators, librarians, parents, learners, and community leaders. You are the true champions of literacy, and you are shaping the future of our Islands,” he concluded.
International Literacy Day is global observance declared by UNESCO and celebrated annually on 8 September.
