The Ministry of Tourism and Ports is pleased to sponsor Caymanian bodybuilder and the 2023 Mr. America titleholder, Robert Thompson Jr, as he travels abroad to compete in significant international bodybuilding events.

Mr. Thompson Jr, a 'natural' bodybuilder, is scheduled to compete at the Drug-Free Athletes Coalition (DFAC) World Finals Bodybuilding Competition in Australia on 12 November. He will then travel to Seattle, Washington, for the World Natural Bodybuilding Federation (WNBF) Amateur and Pro World Championships on 18-19 November.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Hon. Kenneth Bryan, Minister for Tourism and Ports stated that he was excited about this partnership and the opportunity to highlight the Cayman Islands on the global stage through the Ministry’s support of Mr. Thompson.

"Robert is an example of the immense talent that exists in the Cayman Islands and his focus on achieving excellence perfectly aligns with the Cayman Islands brand. As a self-made athlete, he has developed his international platform independently, demonstrating impressive determination and resilience. We hope that the Ministry's support will serve to further elevate Robert's career, as he continues to showcase the high level of achievement that comes from hard work and dedication," Minister Bryan added.

As part of the sponsorship, Mr. Thompson will act as a Tourism Ambassador for the Cayman Islands. His upcoming travel to Australia will present a unique opportunity to promote the Cayman Airways direct service from Los Angeles, which provides an easy and convenient way for travellers from Australia and Asia to access the Cayman Islands.

I am fully supportive of the blending between sports and tourism and the mutual benefits that can be gained," said Minister Bryan. "The aim in this instance is to generate more interest and connectivity within the Asia/Oceania market and we believe that this collaboration will further strengthen our tourism outreach while showcasing the spirit of excellence that is brand Cayman," he explained.
