The Miss World Cayman Islands (MWCI) Organization presented a handover of the 1st and 2nd Runner-up titles during a viewing party of the 70th edition of the Miss World pageant held on Wednesday, March 16th at Karoo, Camana Bay.

Sydonie Barrett relinquished her title as 1st Runner- up to enable her to take on new opportunities and endeavors. As a result, 25 year old Alyssa West who was originally MWCI 2nd Runner-up has now assumed the title of 1st Runner-up, and 25 year old Krista Ebanks is now 2nd Runner-up.

“We thank Sydonie for being a part of the Miss World family and wish her the very best in her future endeavors. We know Sydonie will be successful in whatever she takes on in the future.” Director of Miss World Cayman Islands and Founder of Girl Power Ltd. Pamela Ebanks-Small said. “Congratulations to Alyssa and Krista. We look forward to continue working with them both. Ms. Ebanks-Small commented.

“I am both honored and excited to take on this new role as Miss World Cayman Islands First Runner Up, and I hope to continue to use the Miss World organization as a platform to give back to the Cayman Islands community and to inspire young women.” Alyssa West said.

“I am beyond grateful for this opportunity. I thank every one of you for encouraging and supporting me along the way. I look forward to working with the Miss World Committee again. Once again, a million thanks.” Krista Ebanks said.

Miss Alyssa West, from George Town is an Environmental Engineer with an Associate Degree in Science from the University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI) and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science and Policy from the University of South Florida.

Miss Krista Ebanks, from West Bay is a Primary School Teacher who holds an Associate Degree (with honors) in Hospitality Management from the University College of the Cayman Islands.

If for any reason Miss World Cayman Islands cannot fulfill her duties, the First Runner-up will take her place. During her tenure, Alyssa will be expected to be in attendance at local events either alongside the current titleholder or in her absence. The second runner-up may also attend events.

During the handover presentation, MWCI Director acknowledged the reigning Queen, Rashana Hydes for her incredible performance during the 70th Miss World pageant. Surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, Hydes looked on at her performance on the big screen. “It was a bit emotional because of course, I wish I could be there completing the experience, but it’s really surreal because I remember the emotions of filming, I was thinking - be myself, have fun and represent my country. It was bittersweet.” Miss Hydes said.

Miss Teen Cayman Islands 2021-2022 Asaiah Thomas and First Runner-up, Kianna Ebanks were also present during the event.

The event also included a meet and greet where potential candidates had the opportunity to sign up and learn more about the MWCI organization and upcoming pageant. The Miss World Cayman Islands Committee is currently inviting candidates to compete for the 2022 crown and title. Pageant hopefuls must be Caymanian, between the ages of 18 and 26, must not be married, nor borne children; must be confident, intelligent and involved in the community. Deadline to register is noon April 15th, 2022. Application forms are available by e-mailing missworldcayman@gmail.com. For more information, visit the Miss World social media pages.
