Mosquito Surge Prompts Immediate Action

The Mosquito Research and Control Unit (MRCU) is advising the public to expect a noticeable increase in mosquito activity in the coming days, particularly in the West Bay and George Town areas. This follows a combination of recent rainfall and higher tides, which have created ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes.

In response, the MRCU has launched enhanced control operations across Grand Cayman. Residents may observe the MRCU aircraft conducting aerial treatments, as well as our fogging trucks operating on the ground, especially shortly after sunset when mosquitoes are most active. In addition, thermal fogging is being carried out in the dykes to help reduce the mosquito population as much as possible.

“We know increased mosquito biting can be frustrating, and we want the public to be assured that we are actively working to reduce the numbers as quickly and effectively as possible,” said Kevin Watler, Public Education & Outreach Officer.
